Gay Rights in the UK
From October 2, 2000 the Human Rights Act came into full effect. It safeguards sixteen basic rights, like the right to liberty, freedom of expression and respect for private and family life. These are all standard things that we should be used to in this country (this has not always been the case if you're Black or Gay).

It's always good to know your rights and what you are entitled are to prevent these from being infringed.

National Laws

The Civil Partnership Act 2004 came into operation on 5 December 2005 and enables a same-sex couple to register as civil partners of each other.

The Civil Partnership Act passed by Parliament is intended to bring in wholesale changes to the legal position of lesbian and gay couples. This Act affects everything from parental rights to pensions and bereavement issues.

A civil partnership can be registered in England and Wales in a register office or in approved premises. In order to register a civil partnership you must first give notice.

BRO-SIS Charles Utd Hammer Quinton
It was a cold and wet Sunday evening yet all the lads turned out in full spirit. The game started out well, with Charles Utd netting their first goal within the first fifteen minutes.

The game seemed to slow down allowing the opposition to equalise. Not having any of this, an unimpressed Charles Utd proceeded to make the score 2-1. This was the beginning of the end for the other team as the onslaught of goals began... more

Street Chronicles Part 1
BRO-SIS has released an album called BRO-SIS Street Chronicles Part 1. Highlighting the issues that BRO-SIS works to overcome, artists were asked to contribute songs about such subjects as HIV, Substance Misuse and Criminal Justice.

Darryl 'Vision' James of One Quest Productions was commissioned to produce the album which took six months to complete. It will be showcased at a forthcoming album launch.

BRO-SIS Sponsors Local Inner-City Football Team
As part of our CJIS (Criminal Justice Intervention Service), all the Charles United players participate in mentorship, workshops, group discussions etc.. The team are currently planning with the support of BBC Sport a visit to Holland to play some friendly matches and share experiences with inner-city football teams over there.

The Team is currently in the Sunday League Premiership Division 1 and has won this division for 4 consecutive seasons and came 2nd last season.

The team also won the fair play awards from BBC Sport and featured on BBC Football Focus. To support the team please email email your contact address to us and we will send you our season fixtures, or alternatively visit Powerleague and follow the team's progress.

Party Inna Di Park 2006
BRO-SIS staged a free charity event at Birmingham's Handsworth Park on Sunday 27th August 2006 with the wondrous sounds of Reggae, Gospel, R n B and Hip-Hop, and staged musical performances by local and national Black British artists - and world renowned DJs. The event also included children's activities and entertainment, art displays and the finest Caribbean cuisine to complete the festive atmosphere!
